    The Battle of the Alamo was a military engagement that lasted from February 23rd, 1836 to March 6th, 1836. It was led by President Santa Anna to reclaim the Alamo mission. This engagement ended with 182 or 183 Texians losing their lives including David Crockett.

    Creation of the Republic of Texas
    The General Council called a convention to meet at Washington-on-the-Brazos and scheduled the election of delegates to take place one month before that date.
  • Sam Houston President of the Republic of Texas

    In 1836 the Republic of Texas election was the first in the new Republic. In the election, Sam Houston was chosen over Henry Smith and Stephen F Austin.

    Texas became part of the United States in 1845 and became the 28th state. President Tyler sent a message to Congress in 1844 recommending annexation. Until 1836 Texas was one with Mexico.
