The Battle of San Jacinto
This is the battle where Texas won its independence from Mexico. Sam Houston led his army into a camp site near the San Jacinto River. He led an unexpected attack on Santa Anna's army, won the battle and the war. This led to them capturing Santa Anna in the uniform of a private soldier, as described in primary source in the image. -

Sam Houston is elected president of the Republic of Texas. -
