Navigation Act
Enacted: October 9th 1651
Description: The Navigation Acts were regulations placed anything imported from other countries. They had to either come directly from the country of production or on an English ship.
Colonists Reaction: . The colonists did not approve so they decided that they were going to steal and trade with other countries.
Government Reaction: The government gained money from this tax and ended the revenue 200 years later.

Sugar Act
Enacted: April 5th 1764
Description: The Sugar Act of 1764 was a tax on traded sugar/molasses to make money for the British government and also to stop illegal trade of goods made with sugar.
Colonist Reaction: The colonists boycotted English goods which did angered the government.
Government Reaction: The government saw that the boycott was effecting the British merchants so they repealed it.

Stamp Act
Enacted: March 22nd 1765
Description: The Stamp Act was a tax placed on the colonists stating that every official document required a stamp, the money made from the stamps went to the British government as revenue.
Colonist Reaction: The colonists were not happy with this tax. They formed riots and boycotted British goods.
Government Reaction: After seeing this reaction they repealed the Stamp Act but they enacted the Declaratory Act.

Townshend Acts
Enacted: June 29th, 1767
Description: The Townshend Acts were taxes placed on popular imports to the colonists including paint, tea, lead, paper, and glass.
Colonist Reaction: The colonists reacted with rage. They wrote a letter to the government stating their resistance to their revenue.
Government Reaction: After 2 and a half years of resistance the British government finally repealed the act.

Tea Act
Enacted: May 10th 1773
Description: After The Townshend Acts, only taxes on tea were left. The Tea Act was an act to reduce the price of tea imported to America to help the East India Company.
Colonists Reaction: One night the Sons of Liberty led by Samuel Adams boarded ships carrying the tea and threw the tea overboard.
Government Reaction: The government did not like this so they later made the Intolerance Act to stop the colonists.
