  • The Molasses Act

    The Molasses Act
    The Mosasses Act was imposed on the American Colonists and taxed them six pence per gallon of molasses. The colonists did not like this, so they refused to pay the tax, by intimidating the tax collectors and evading the taxes. The British parliament responded by creating a different law on sugar and bringing reinforcements to enforce the taxes.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act started a tax on every piece of paper, requiring that every piece of paper have a stamp, which was taxed. They colonists rioted and the British government retracted it.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act made it legal for British troops to take over any homes, inns, or other places they wanted for shelter during peacetime. The American Colonists were very angry, and because the British government did nothing about it, it became one of the reasons for the American revolutionary war.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts
    The Townshend Acts were a series of acts that taxed things like glass, paper, tea, and paint. The Americans hated these taxes and held protests and riots. The British Government reacted by repealing some of them and adding more troops to enforce the Act.
  • The Tea Act

    The Tea Act
    The Tea Act was enacted in 1773 and taxed the American's tea. This made the Americans angry, as it was viewed as yet another form of taxation without representation. In protest, the Sons of Liberty boarded 3 British ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor. In retaliation, the British government passed the intolerable acts.
