Royal Proclamation of 1763
The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued to prohibit the colonists from expanding west of the Appalachia after the French and Indian war. The colonists didn't think this was fair after they fought so hard to win that war and it allowed less room for trade, so they disregarded the policy and attempted expanding farther. The British decided to revise the policy and allow licensed colonists to continue fur trade in the area. -
Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was established by the British to increase their profit from the colonists sugar and molasses trade. This angered the colonists because it put sugar and molasses at a high price, causing everyday meals that this ingredient was included in much harder to obtain.As well as the fact that they thought that Parliament shouldn't be able to tax them for revenue. Because of all this happening, the British finally decided to lower the price of foreign sugar to one penny. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was passed to make any form of paper document, such as wills, marriages documents, and more, and also things as simple as playing cards and newspaper to require a stamp or else it was found invalid. This colonists retaliated by creating protests, harassing tax collectors and merchants, boycotting the British. After a little while, it became too much for the British and the merchants were loosing too much money from the boycotts, so they repealed the Stamp Act. -
Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was established after the Stamp Act was repealed to enforce that the British could enforce laws onto the colonies. This made the colonists angry because it ruined their main purpose of the colonies, which was self government and freedom from Britain. Yet the colonists couldn't spend enough time dwelling on it because they were celebrating the removal of the Stamp Act. But a few colonists knew the Britain was getting ready to imply further taxation. -
Townshend Act
The British passed this act so that the colonists would provide money, off of items such as glass, paint, paper, and tea, pay the salaries of the British government. The colonists reacted by having boycotts on British goods and harassing tax collectors. They did this because they felt the British was threatening their right to govern themselves. In result the British government finally repealed the taxation on the items except for tea and took out British government living in the colonies.
