  • Sugar act

    Sugar act
    The sugar act enforced tax on sugar and molasses imported into the American Colonies from non-British Caribbean sources. The colonists reacted to this by protesting against taxation without proper representation in parliament. The government did not listen to the people.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The stamp act was the act requiring colonists to pay taxes. This was represented by a stamp that was found on different kinds of papers and even playing cards. The colonists just argued that there should be no taxation without representation. The government did not listen and the act was not repealed until 1766.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    This act stated that Great Britain would house its soldiers in American barracks and public houses. The colonists were not thrilled by this act because it meant that colonial legislatures were required to pay to house the troops. The government liked this act because the soldiers were able to live in houses.
  • Townshend act

    Townshend act
    To help pay for the expenses involved in governing the American colonies, parliament passed the townshend act. This initiated taxes on glass,lead, paint, paper, and tea. In reaction of this the colonists created boycotts of British goods to pressure parliament to repeal the act. The government eventually repealed the act in 1770.
  • Massachusetts Government Act

    Massachusetts Government Act
    This act was meant to reconstruct the Massachusetts government to give the royally appointed more power. The colonists saw the difference this act made on the government. American colonists did not like the act and many sent tea back to England. The government liked this act because they would replace elected council and replace them with appointed ones.
