The Sistine Chapel
In 1508 Michelangelo began painting the Sistine Chapel, It took him four years to complete the ceiling. I have been to the Sistine Chapel and our tour guide told us Michelangelo originally painted one of the priests naked and in hell. He painted something over the priest on him by request. :) (But it wasn't clothes, it was a snake.) In this picture you can see the priest with the snake in the bottom right hand corner. -

African Slaves
In 1518 the Spanish brought the first slaves to America by boat, the route they used soon became known as the Triangular Trade and also became the new world ecomny. The image is of the front end of a slave ship, and how the slaves were packed in. -

Mannerism Begins!

Mannerism ended the Italian Renaissance, and spread a long way to Greece. This affected Greco interestingly, Greco was an artist and Mannerism inspired him to paint religious pictures that leaned towards dogmatic veiws. His paintings showed elogated figures and he liked to portray the religious tensions. -

Magellan Sails into Pacific Ocean
He sailed into the "Pacific Sea" trying to get to the Spice Islands. Magellan got a bit lost o nthe way, but soon found his way, the long way to Philippines. He did this in vain, as the local islanders killed him. He was still known as the first man to sail all around the world. -

The Church of England's exact creation date is not known, but the year was 1534, it was created by Henry VIII. -

In 1558 Elizabeth Tudor became queen of England. With her ruling, England became the ruler of the protestant nation. -
Thirty Years' War Begins
The Thirty Years War began right after the Peace of Augsburg ended. It was fought between the holy Roman states. They called the Tirty Years war the "last of all religious wars" but that was not true. True, it was the last of the major wars, but there were smaller religious wars after it. -
Toleration Act Passed
The Toleration Act is a peculiar thing. They said it would tolerate religion, but they didn't say what religion. Once the act was passed, it was only or Puritans. It granted Puritans the right to worship in public, but not Catholics. Though it did stop Catholics from being persecuted because of their religion -
English establish Colony in North America
The English set up sugar plantations in the Carribean sea, as well as established a large colony in North America.
