Columbus lands in the americas
On August 3, 1492 Christopher Columbus led 3 ships- the nina, the pinta, and the santa maria. His goal was to sail west to Asia from the spanish ports of Palos for gold and pearls. When he was traveling he discovered the ways of trading. On October 12 he sighted land and went ashore that day to claim it for spain and name it americas. -

Da Gama's voyage to India
Vasca da Gama was portuguese and he sailed from lisbon in 1497 on a duty to make it to India. He wanted to open a sea route from Europe to the East. He accomplished that by sailing the western coast of Africa. He recieved a hero's congratulations in portuagual. Then he was sent on a second trip to India, which he came across muslim traders there. -

Da Vinci's Mona Lisa
Leonardo da Vinci started painting the Mona Lisa in 1503 to 1504 in Florence, Italy. Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa for Francesco Del Giocondo but it was of his wife. The painting of Mona Lisa is made out of oil on wood. Also there is suppose to be a secret message behind her smile in the portrait. -

Michelangelo's David statue
In 1501, Michelangelo was 26 years old. He was already known has the most famous artist in his time and in Florence, Italy. He was given a challenge which he accepted to making a sculpture of David. He worked constantly for two years on this which turned out to be a masterpiece. In 1504 he finally finished the sculpture of David. David was a symbol of strength and anger. -

Machiavelli writes The Prince
Niccolo Machiavelli was known for many different things. He was an italian historian, politician, humanist, and writer. He wrote The Prince to state and classify different states: republics, brand-new princedoms, and mixed principalities. It did not get published until 1532. Also he wrote it because he was seeking favor by Lorenzo de Medici. -

Luther's 95 Theses
In 1517 the ninety-five theses on the power and efficancy of indulgences were written by Martin Luther. They were known as the initial catalyst for the Protestant Reformation. The 95 theses questioned the church of selling indulgences. Luther did not agree at all of what the church was doing in wittenburg and that is why he wrote the 95 theses. -

Cortes conquers the aztecs
In 1519 Herman Cortes invaded Mexico and conquered the Aztec Empire. It was declared on August 13,1521 that he actually conqueraed it. Cortes had a total of 508 to 600 soldiers who helped him conquere. It was important because he claimed Mexico for Spain. He is best remembered for conquering the Aztec Empire. -

The Council of Trent was the catholic church's attempt to fight back against the reformation. It was held between 1545 and 1563 in Trento (Trent). The Council of Trent was called by Pope Paul III. It was important because it played an important part determining the outcome of the reformation. -
