Filippo Brunelleschi was an architect from Florence, Italy. He began as an apprentice to a goldsmith and created his style from classical Roman buildings. After the office of the papacy had been moved three times and three popes had been elected, people questioned who had power. This event was called the Great Papal Schism and it took place in the year 1378. The office of the papacy was moved back to Rome from Avignon. Christians were in a time of confusion.
