    On October 31, 1517, at Wittenberg, Germany, Martin Luther, the founder of Protestantism and the Lutheran Church, nailed 95 theses, or statements of disapproval, to the door of the Catholic church.This then resulted in another religion coming about.

    Henry VIII started the process of creating the Church of England after his split with the Pope in the 1530s.After learning that Anne Boleyn was expecting, Henry made secret plans to marry her at Whitehall Palace, which marked the start of the split with Rome. Pope Clement VII had been asked by Henry to cancel his marriage to Catherine, but the Pope refused. This was the start of the split between him and the Pope.

    The initial congregation was led by John Smyth, and in 1612 Thomas Helwys returned to England and established the first Baptist church there. Because they thought church membership should be optional and that only believers should be baptised, the Baptists broke away from the Church of England.

    John Wesley establishes the first Methodist Church in the United States on February 28, 1784. Wesley was an Anglican, but he saw that his followers needed a church structure after the Anglican Church chose to abandon its American followers during the American Revolution.
  • Presbyterian

    In 1811, they separated from the Church of England and ordained their own clergy. Originally known as the Calvinist Methodist Connexion, they went by the name Presbyterian Church of Wales in the 1920s.The teachings of John Calvin and John Knox during the Protestant Reformation in the sixteenth century were the foundation of Presbyterianism.
  • Uniting Church

    The Congregational Union of Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia, and the Presbyterian Church of Australia joined together to form the Uniting Church in Australia (UCA) on June 22, 1977. The UCA is Australia's third-largest Christian denomination.
  • Hillsong Church

    The Hillsong worship music conference was held at the church within three years of its founding in 1983 by Brian Houston and his wife, Bobbie. The church's music group, which goes by the same name, issued Spirit and Truth as their debut album in 1988. They originally split from the denomination.
