I had almost every Dr. Suess book imaginable. I can remember looking at the pictures and wishing that my house looked like the ones in the story

    Daily Reading Check
My mom is a librarian. I can remember being in the 2nd grade and having her pick put books for me to read. My favorites were Junie B. Jones!

Mrs. Ryan introduces me to the greatest series of all time!
In the fifth grade, my teacher Mrs. Ryan would do daily read-clouds. Towards the end of the year she began to read A Series of Unfortunate Events. To this day, I still read them and they are my favorite books of all time.

    Getting the Hang of Reading.
In the sixth grade I became obsessed with Shel Silverstein and all of his poems. My mom bought me Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, and Falling Up. I still have them, and they hold a special place on my coffee table.
  • Expanding My Horizons

    Expanding My Horizons
Sixth grade was a big year for reading. I decided that I wanted to begin to read more substantial books. My mom recommended that I read Eragon. That was the first time I had read such a long book, and I realized that books are always better than their movie adaptations.

    Making Deals
Ella Enchanted, the movie, was about to come out. So, my mom made a deal with me. If I read the book, she would take me to see it. It is probably one of my favorite books to this day.
  • The Twilight Phase

    The Twilight Phase
Up until now, my mom had a lot of influence over the books I read. These were the first books I chose to read on my own and it was a turning point for me. I realized that I did't have to wait for my mom to recommend good books.
  • Comic Books

    Comic Books
Shortly after high school, I was introduced to the wonderful world of comic books. I love that you can feel connected to a character or story without needing to read very many words.

Tackling the Biggest Read of All Time
I started reading Lord of the Rings about a year ago. It is by far the heaviest book I have ever read. I suppose I will have to read the Hobbit next.

    Kickin' It Old School
Lately I find myself reading more and more children's books. I love being able to find books that are enjoyable for kids, and ones that challenge them to do better and read more.
