Reading History Timeline

  • 1st Grade

    1st Grade
This was the first time that I picked up a picture book, and read the entire thing. We would earn reading stars for every book that we read and how many minutes it takes us.
  • 3rd Grade

    3rd Grade
I read my first Chapter Book. I had read picture books 1st-2nd grade. I read my first book about The Boxcar Children. I was so fascinated by these books that I read any and all of them that I was able to find in my library.
  • 4th Grade Social Studies Project

    4th Grade Social Studies Project
In my 4th grade Social Studies class, we had to build the land one ancient tribe. I chose the Apalachee Tribe. We also had to do research and write a report about them. This was my first time writing longer than one paragraph, and I re-read many times to fix any mistakes or add something to it. The picture represents how the project would look like. Mine looked similar to it.
  • 5th Grade Reading Comprehension Walk

    5th Grade Reading Comprehension Walk
In 5th grade, I a part of the Reading Comprehension Walk. Every month, five students out of all elementary classes were chosen for it. This means that we have met certain standards within our grade level and that we are ready to move up. The walk is done with the principal, throughout the elementary hallways. There is a chant that everyone does while the students are walking. I was apart of that walk when I was in 5th grade.
  • 6th Grade - English Project

    6th Grade - English Project
When I entered Middle School, it was a major change from Elementary School. In my English class, we were required to do two-page-essays for every class chapter book that we finished. I was reading A LOT during this year, and constantly writing book reports.
  • 9th Grade - High School

    9th Grade - High School
I did a lot of the same thing in Middle School. When I entered High School, it was no longer picture books or chapter books, but rather chapter books with meaning. We read Fahrenheit 451, and that book opened my eyes to different perspectives. This was the first book that I had read that had a message behind it; something that the author wanted us to takeaway.
  • 10th Grade - The Great Gatsby

10th Grade - The Great Gatsby
In 10th grade, we read The Great Gatsby. This was the first book that I connected to. I LOVED this book. We read this for about three weeks in class, and watched the film. My entire class was fascinated by this book. It was one of the first books for me to say, "there are books out there that have more feeling and connection."
  • 10th Grade - Romeo and Juliet

10th Grade - Romeo and Juliet
In 10th grade, we were also introduced to Romeo and Juliet. I had heard of Romeo and Juliet before and how it was inappropriate. We read the play version with all of the ACT's in class, along with watch the movie (not the Leonardo DiCaprio one).
  • 11th Grade - Othello

    11th Grade - Othello
We also read another of Shakespeare's plays called Othello. This play was very interesting, and I remember being very confused because we had to use our comprehension skills to figure out what exactly was going on in the play. It was not as easy to figure out.

    Reading Today
My senior year was during COVID, during the online era. I only had a math class and my major. During this time, I continued to read. I love reading and novels like Fahrenheit 451 and The Great Gatsby are my inspiration. I am currently into Jane Addams and America's Award winning books. These books focus on peace and equality, along with some of the major issues going on in our world. It is fascinating to see these things in other's eyes.
