Alphabet
I grew up learning Spanish, but I remember being taught the alphabet at a young age by my siblings. -
First memory of Reading
Before I even knew English, I vividly remember being introduced to reading with this specfic book. I didn't understand what the words meant but I remember wanting this to be the first book I could read by myself. I made it one of my goals. -
Learning how to read
I began learning how to read in kindergarten. I remember enjoying the Biscuit the Dog books and my love for reading progressed. I was proud because I was learning English! -
Enjoying a Series
As time went on, I struggled with reading/learning English/comprehension/etc. I began working extra hard when I discovered this series. I enjoyed reading once again and improved my reading skills. -
Reading Comprehension
As I started improving, my teachers began using a software that allowed us to be quizzed with the books we read. We would chose a book from the library, have a week to read it, and then take a test online. It was something new the school began doing too. -
Practicing
I began looking forward to completing my reading logs and made it a challenge to increase the amount of minutes I would have. -
Middle School
As I grew up, my books changed and the next full series I enjoyed was Diary of a Wimpy Kid. At this point, I hated reading the boring "grown-up" books. I found this series and continued reading as much as I could. -
Highschool
I do not remember enjoying a book series in highschool, but I remember books switched to textbooks only. -
Pandemic Reading
Once the pandemic happened, I resorted back to reading and enjoyed reading these books. -
Phonics Chip Kit
I had my struggles reading but now I am currently helping my students read! I am helping bilingual students as well. I have been using the Phonics Chip Kit and it is helping them tremendously. I wish we had something similar when I was younger.
