Kindergarten
This is when I truly was first introduced to books. -
ESL
During my ESL classes, my teachers would have us do a lot of reading comprehension tests. -
Third Grade
During this time is when I began reading longer books. I looked forward to going to library class and choosing a new book for the week. -
Fifth Grade
If I had to choose at what point in my life I read just for fun and not because I had to for a class assignment it would be at this point (fifth grade). I read a lot and would finish a book within a week. I was reading at a higher level than most of the kids my age and this encouraged me to read even more. -
Sixth Grade
Being that I entered middle school at this time, teachers were assigning more reading and book reports. -
Eighth Grade
My determination to read was to qualify to be placed in advanced English classes in high school. -
Freshman Year
Honors English I. I had never found myself struggling in an English class as much as I had in this one. I feel that once I started high school I kind of lost interest in reading. I no longer read as much as I had in the past and didn't realize how much work an advanced placement required. This was the one and only C I received in all of my school years. -
Sophomore Year
After having done so poorly in my English class freshman year I became discouraged and thought I should stay within my abilities and decided to not do any honors classes anymore. I felt taking regular courses would be a lot less stressful and manageable. -
Junior Year
Something inside of me switched this year and I suddenly became determined to graduate with an honors diploma. In order to do so, I knew I had to enroll in an honors English class again. I was afraid to receive a bad grade like I had freshman year but I pushed myself to work hard. My work paid off and I got a B in this class. -
Senior Year
Senior year of high school I was in an honors American literature class. I found myself able to keep up with the pace and was surprised to have finished with an A. -
Now
Currently, as a busy person working and doing school both full time I have no time to read by choice. All of the reading I do is because it is required by one of my courses. I do think reading is important, though as it helps expand our knowledge and ignites our creative side.
