Birth of Queen Elizabeth I
Queen Elizabeth I was born on September 7, 1533. She was daughter to King Henry VII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. Anne Boleyn was executed when Elizabeth was only 2 years old. She was declared illegitimate after her parents marriage was annulled, making her third in line to the crown, behind her half sister Princess Mary.

Queen Bloody Mary Succeeds
After Edward's death, he was succeeded by Mary. Mary was raised Roman Catholic instead of in the Church of England like Edward and Elizabeth. Mary restored roman Catholicism as the religion of the state of England during her reign. Mary dies and Elizabeth is crowned Queen of England. She is expected to marry and have children, she has many suitors, but she never will. She was a smart and well educated women and spoke 5 languages. She relied on a group of trusted advisors to rule. One of her first acts of ruling was the establishment of an English Protestant Church. cousin Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotts is next up for the throne. -

The Coronation of Elizabeth I took place at Westminster Abbey on January 15, 1559. She was 25. Her coronation was the last to be preformed in Britain under the Roman Catholic Church.

Mary was forced to abdicate the throne and fled to England. Elizabeth did not trust her and had her taken into custody where she would remain for 19 years. -

Queen Elizabeth was fond of exploration and voyages. She provided financial support for Francis Drakes exploration. She encouraged expeditions to North America and to set up a colony. Virginia was an area explored in 1584 and named after her, the Virgin Queen. -

The Spanish armada assembled to attack England sailed into the English channel in July 1588. The English ships were smaller but were easier to maneuver and beat the Spanish ships. Thus victory was a high point in Elizabeths reign -
