Hamilcar Barca
Ruler of Carthage, begins conquests in Iberia, captures silver mines to pay back Rome.
Makes son, Hannibal, take an oath against Rome before Hamiclar dies. -
218 BCE
Hannibal Barca
son of Hamilcar; general of army in Iberia. Crossed the river of Ebro in order to complete his conquest of the Iberian peninsula. In 219 Hannibal captures the city of Saguntum (Roman-backed city, south of Ebro) Rome declares that Carthage hands over Hannibal for prosecution, Carthage declines. -

Second Punic War
Also known as the "Hannibal War".Rome declares war on Carthage. The Carthaginians were led by Hannibal. Rome demands that Carthage hand over Hannibal however Carthaginians decline. 12 years of destruction (40,000 casualties and destruction of Italy) Rome tries to break Hannibal's alliance and take his supply. Period: 149 BCE to 146 BCE
Third Punic War
Carthage resented the loss of its territory to Numidia Carthage breaks their treaty with Rome by sending an army to fight the Numidian king. Rome declares war on Carthage once again. During the war, the city of Hippacra refused to surrender against Rome. The final act that came in 146 BCE, Rome attacked the city from every angle and the city was destroyed and the people of Carthage were enslaved.
