Psychology Conception - Two years brain development

  • Period: to

    First Trimester Overview

Brain develops immensely and is half of the fetus's weight. It grows billions of neurons which connect across synapses to control movement and growth.
  • Conception

    Conception
I was conceived roughly in June of 2005. Conception is the first step in producing a baby. This is step one. In the near future, a baby with a semi-functional brain will begin to grow.
  • Development of the brain

    Development of the brain
The brain typically starts to develop 3-4 weeks after conception. This is a very raw and underdeveloped form of the brain, as it is merely a clump of raw cells that are very early on in the process of birth Source

  • First synaptic connection

    First synaptic connection
It is typical for the first synaptic connections to be formed 5 weeks after conception, so mine were formed roughly on 7/28/2005. This is the first stage of cognitive activity.
  • Neural tube closes, brain divides by three

Neural tube closes, brain divides by three
The neural tube closes at 6-7 weeks after conception and the brain divides into three different sections, frontbrain, midbrain, and hindbrain. This stage is when the baby's brain starts to function more so independently than it was when it was connected through the neural tube. The cerebrum will soon fold into left and right brain. Video

    Prenatal Brain Development Stage

After around week 7, after the neural tube closes, the brain grows at a fascinating rate of 250,000 neurons per minute from week 7 to week 21. This entails a growth of 3.528 billion neurons developed in 14 weeks. Ultrasounds can detect electrical impulses that reveal that the brain is beginning to function. Source

  • Period: to

    Second trimester

Brain gains control over basic muscles such as the chest and the brain performs chest compressions. The fetus can swallow amniotic fluid between week 16-21, and other controls are developed that the brain can perform. The brain gains control over limbs and the mother can feel kicking and movements of the legs. These movements are directed at the cerebellum.
  • Period: to

    Third Trimester

Rapid development of neurons and explosive brain growth occurs in the third trimester. The brain matter increases and its weight goes from 3 ounces to 11 ounces. In this stage, the cerebrum develops grooves and ridges, and the left and right brain separate. The baby's brain gains control over fingers and toes and they begin to waggle.
Motor controls are enhanced in this period of brain growth.
  • Period: to

    Brain Development 0-2 Months

The brain is more independent and does not rely on the mother as much. Dieting, physical activity, etc.. all affect the development of the brain. The brain contains more than 100 billion neurons, and they continue to grow at 1 million neurons per second.

  • Period: to

    Development from 2-6 months

The baby's brain grows through sensory interaction such as sight, touch, crying, hearing, and many other hands-on experiences that the baby is exposed to. Everything post-birth was from this source:

  • Period: to

    6-12 months

Baby's brain develops through cognition, learning, movement, language, and social economical experiences. All of these experiences compile to make each childs brain growth different and unique. These are the building blocks of intelligence and they are crucial years to the growth and development of a child. The brain is still in a period of rapid growth and the baby is still adapting to this major change. Some babies say their first words and the brain gains control over language and emotion.
  • Period: to

    12-24 months

The baby's brain enters the pre-toddler stage. New words are being learned what seems to be every week. Comprehension of words is expanding and emotional display is also growing as the baby gets older and closer to 24 months. Some of the biggest differences and milestones are motor control skills over their arms and legs. Most babies start walking around the 13 month stage. After the 24 month mark, the growth in the cerebrum slows because it is unable to maintain the prior rapid pace.
