Prohibition

  • American temperance society

This society promoted temperance. This society was also growing very fast. In ten years over 1,500,000 people took the vow. The vow is a oath that you take on yourself that you will not dring alchoholic drinks. With this group growing super fast they had a pretty big part in the prohibition act.
  • Period: to

    the Temperance movement

during this time the temperance movement in the united states was at it's third and final wave. This wave had brought the Anti-saloon league to the country. This third wave of the temperance movement had successfully started prohibition. Then it ended prohibition in 1933.
  • Period: to

    Anti-Saloon League

This league was the first pressure group that was made around one problem. The league's first selected leader was Howard Hyde Russell. Howard Hyde Russell was smart, he chose his leaders to be young so they can learn how to lead the group from experience. The orginization itself was a league that was leading the United States in Prohibition. They were defeated when the 21st ammendment was released that made alchohol legal again.
  • 18th Ammendment

In 1919 the United States of America made the 18th ammendment. The 18th ammendment is an ammendment that prohibited the legal use of alcholic drinks. The ammendment was backed up by the Volstead act. This ammendment did not state penalties for the movement of alcholic drinks.
  • Period: to

    Prohibition was illegal

During this time the 18th ammendment was in order. All transportation of alchoholic drinks was illegal. This was a good thing in my opinion, but there was a lot of problems that have gone with it. There was a pretty big increase in organized crime because they can not get their alchoholic drinks anymore.
  • Volstead act

The Volstead act was an act to prohibit intoxicating drinks. To regulate the movement of alcholic drinks. This act backed up the 18th ammendment. This act enforced the 18th ammendment because the 18th ammendment did not put down penalties or define intoxicating drinks.
  • 21st Ammendment

This ammendment is different than all of the other ammendments. This ammendment revoked a previous ammendment. The ammendment that it revoked was the 18th ammendment. This ammendment basically undid all of the things that the 18th did. So the movement and sale of alcoholic drinks were made legal again.
  • Repeal of prohibition

The repeal of prohibition came to be with the 21st ammendment. The repeal of prohibition made it legal to make and transport alchoholic drinks. This repeal was a big repeal because it is still going today. So the repeal of prohibition happened because they didn't like the change of not being able to go and buy whatever alchoholic drinks they want. So they went against that and they were able to make it so they can do that again.
