  • The First Prohibition Law

    There were alot of assumtions of who started prohibition first. The first prohibition law was passed in Maine. Their was another one passed in the Oregan Territory but it wasn't a state yet. In 1881 Kansas was the first state to have prohibition in its law. After these states prohibition became more popuar.
  • The National Prohibition Party was founded

    The National Prohibition Party was founded in 1869. It is a political party in the United States. It's known best for its alcohol consumtion. It used to be very important in politics in the U.S. in the 19th century. It has been less important since the repeal of Prohibition in 1933.
  • The Anti-Saloon League was formed

    The Anti-Saloon League was formed in 1893. This was the leading organization for Prohibition in the U.S. It was the key component to the Progressive Era. It focused on legislation and it mattered how the people voted, but they didn't care if you drank or not. In 1895 it became a national organization which was very popular.
  • Wartime Prohibition Act

    The U.S. congress passed a temporary act during the war. It was called the "Wartime Prohibition Act". It banned the sale of alcohol beverages with more than 2.25% alcohol. They made this act to try to save grains. The act was passed on June 30,1919.
  • The Volt Act

    Even though the 18th Amendment established Prohibition, the Volt Act made it a law. The Volt Act said that any beverage with more than 0.5% alcohol by volume was illegal. It also stated that any item made from manufacturing was also illegal. If you got caught from that you would get fined. You would also get in jail for violating the law of Prohibition.
  • The Dark Side of Prohibition

    Prohibition had its up's and its down's. Not everyone agreed on it and or liked it. One of the highlights of the darkside was when "The Rise of the Bootleggers" happend. During this time there was a man named Al Capone. He was known as the biggest ganster during the Prohibition Era. He had a leading role in the illegal activities that lead Chicago to its reputation as a lawless city.
  • The 18th Amendment Passes

    In the 20th century there was temperance organizations in most states. In 1916 over half of the United States they already had statutes (written laws) that prohibited alcohol. In 1919 the 18th amendment to the United States was radifed. In the amendment, it prohibited the sale of manufacturing alcohol. The law started on January 16, 1920.
  • Cullen-Harrison Act

    President Franklin Roosevelt signed off the law for this act. It legallized beer with 3.2% of alcohol. Wine also had to have a low alcohol percentage. On December 5, 1933 the 21st Amendment repealed against the 18th Amendment. The U.S. still makes it a requirement to have a license to manufature alcohol.
