This year marked the end of the time Boss Tweed was stealing from the city treasury. It was bettween 1865 and 1871 that Boss Tweed stole about 200 million dollars. This in a way is favorable towards progress because Tweed was trying to grow and progress his bussiness.

Sherman Antitrust Act
The Sherman Antitrust act was a federal law that declared monopolies and trust to be illegal. A monopolie is exclusive control of an industry, used to elimiante competition. A trust is a group of companies that give their stock to a direction. By eliminating these, there is less cockyness and entitalment in an indusrty is eliminated.

H.G. Wells
It was during the late 1800's that H.G. Wells wrote about a visit with a political machine. He noted that he was extremely kind and was willing to help someone, even if it ment he was going to get in trouble. This reflects what happened during the progressive era, because people thought political machine were only in it for themselves, but not all of them were.

Labor laws
Illonis prohibits child labor and limits the number of hours other people could work. This is progress because before this work places could make people work more than they were physically able to do. This is a step in the right direction because people were able to spend more time doing other things and they rested enough to work. -
Euegene Debs
Eugene Debs sided with the Pullman employee strikes. George Pullman annouced he would be making wage cuts and Debs did not like this. Debs siding with the strikers is progress becuase workers in this company were being exploited and Debs decided to do something about it.
