Teddy Roosevelt at the age of 43 became the youngest president in his time. his term last from 1901-1909. He tried to run for presidenrt again, but the Republican party wouldn't let him be their nomination, because he was to Liberal for the Republicans. So he ended up getting the nomination from the Progressive party. -
Robert LaFollette Elected as Govener
Robert LaFollette was elected because of his reform ideas. He sought to drive out the busniess out of politics. He also targeted the railroad industry in order to regulate rates. Roberts nickname was Fighting Bob. Fighting Bob wouldn't accept bribes to fix a court case, because it was wrong. He spent about a decade traveling the state of Wisconsin speaking his mind on crooked politians. -
Jacob Riis
Jacob Riis wrote a book that showed the horrific lifestyles of the urban poor. He focuses on the tenements. This caused NYC to pass a building code to promote saftey and health. -
Pullman Strike
This strike was led by Eugene Debs. Eugene Debs helped create the Railway union. The strike ended with the interference of the U.S Army. Eugene Debs was aressted for six months. Eugene debs also ran for president four times, and lost all four times. He ended up running for Indianna's congressional seat in 1916, which he won. -
Bryan's runs for President
Bryan was known as the "Great Commoner". His supporters called him a champion for his Liberal Causes. he had ideas that helped influence popular elections of senators, women suffrage, income taxes, prohibition and the creation of the Department of Labor. He lost the election to McKinely. -
Bryan's second attempt
William Jennings Bryan ran for president again in 1900. He ended up losing the election to Theodore Roosevelt. -
Upton Sinclair
Mr.Sinclair is an author, or a "Mudracker" as President Roosevelt would say. Upton wrote the book "The Jungle" which exposed a Chicago meat Industry. His book raised public awareness and prompting Congress to pass the Meat Inspection Act, and Pure Food and Drug Act. -
Meat Inspection Act/ Pure Food and Drug Act
President Rooselvelt passed the Meat Inspection Act after the he read the "Jungle" written by Upton Sinclair. The act was put into place because the novcel exposed the shocking details of the meat packing industry in Chicago. This raised public awareness and prompted congress to pass the Meat Inspection Act/ Pure Food and Drug Act. -
Bryan's Third attempt
In his third attempt to run for president, a slogan used to bash Bryan was used against him. " Vote for Taft now, You can vote for Bryan anytime" William won the election leaving Bryan 0-3 for the Presidency. -

Jane Addams was the president of the NCSW for about a decade. Jane established the National Federation Conference. She also won the noble peace prize in Social Welfare, which makes her the first American women to win. -
Johnson elected into congress
Hiram Johnson was elected into the congress in 1911. (California) Johnson was also one of the founders of the progressive party in 1912. He was nominated as the vice president to go along with Teddy Roosevelt. Johnson also rationalized the state of California's fiances and budgetary process. Johnson also was a U.S senator for ober two decades. -

16th Amendement
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states without any regard to any census and ensumeration. -
Business reforms
When the 16th Amendment was passed the wealthy had to pay taxes on their income that they made. Fostering efficiency was put into place into most factories and companies. They did this to speed up the production of goods and reduce the numbers of hours spent at work. -
17th Amendment
The senate of the United States shall be composed of two senators from each state, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each senator shall have one vote. The electors in each state shall have the qualifications requisite for electors of the most numerous branch of the state legislatures. -
Public Service Reform
When the 17th Amendment came out, two senators were able to represent each state. It also gave the senators six years per term. The 18th Amendment also banned all liquors to be sold in America. Womens suffrage gave women the right to vote which gave them more say in government. -

Social justice reform
After the 19th Amendment was put into effect, Women were able to gain their power to vote. They were also allowed to get paid minimum wage at work for the same job that men did. -

Charles Evans Hughes: Secutary of state
Charles help secure labor legislations and insurance reform. He also helped create the Public service Commission. Hughes was the Republican canadite in the 1916 elections, losing narrowly to Wilson. He also have the priviledge of being the Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and was the govener of New York. -
Labor Reforms
By 1912, Most states banned child labor in factories. Laws also gave minimum wage for women. Laws such like eight hour work days were passed in most states.
