    In 1899 Jane Addams and a friend opened up a house for immigrant workers who needed a light in their life.

    Jacob Riis
    Jacob created his acoount on city life where he made an album of photos he had taken in the city, there were photos of children sleeping on the street and pictures of two homeless children. This album was seen by Roosevelt who was considerably impressed by it. May 3, 1849 - May 26, 1914.
  • Muckraking

    Muckraking
    A group of journalists that wanted more than just the surface of the issue. Investigative journaling came from this event, and gave more background to the people and issues
    This type of journalism hit the media around 1890-1914.
    President Theodore Roosevelt was allegedly elected from the background that the investigative journalists wrote on him.

    Sherman Antitrust Act
    A law that said anyone found guilty of dominating a trade through trust was subject to fines of $5,000 and a year in jail.
    President Harrison signed this into law.

    Born June 14, 1855. Once Robert became mayor in 1900 he started his work in fixing society. He was strongly against the idea of war. Mickenly was president. Died June 18, 1925

    The Northern Securities Co. was not doing their job of preventing trusts to the best of their of abilities, and the Surpreme Court was denying cases. March 14, 1904.

    A bunch of North Carolinian tobacco companies were trying to monopolize the tobacco industry. The Surpreme Court case against them did next to nothing. William Howard Taft was president. Decided May 29, 1911.

    At the end of the workday, most workers are packing up when a fire starts. Of the 500 employees 146 died, and soon after NY published tons of fire safety acts and laws. William Howard Taft was president at this time.

    An election with 3 main canidates Taft, Wilson, and Roosevelt. Roosevelt started his own party, but Wilson still won by a landslide of almost all the states. Of course Woodrow Wilson was president.

    Basic system of reserve. Panics were often very common so people needed a system to trust Congress made the new federal reserve act in 1913 and it is still in place. Wilson was president.
