  • Pendleton Act

    Pendleton Act
    The president at the time was able to hand out jobs and it was called the Spoils System. The Spoil System was were the president could just hand out jobs to whoever he felt like having. That is why the Pendleton Act came to play. The Pendleton Act was set up so the president couldn't just pick anyone for the job so with that act Congress picks the a person that fits the job and they use the Merit system to also see who fits the job.
  • Pure Food and Drug Act

    Pure Food and Drug Act
    The FDA(Food and Drug Administration) was created because of this. The FDA protects the Pure Food And Drug Act by making sure products are FDA approved. Law to remove harmful and misrepresented food and drugs from being sold. Manage the making and selling of drugs and foods. If produced are not FDA approved then they are not allowed to ship out of state.
  • Antiquities Act

    Antiquities Act
    There were Native American history artifacts being destroyed by people. So instead of letting people destroy a part of history they wanted to make a national park so the history artifacts would be protected. They brought it to congress and after that they congress brought it to the president to make it become a law so now it is protected.
  • Meat Inspection Act

    Meat Inspection Act
    The Inspection act was the signed off by Theodore Roosevelt. It stopped the sales of livestock and derived products as food ensured that the livestock were slaughtered and processed under well sanitary conditions. They changed the meatpacking industry by having the U.S. Department of Agriculture inspect all ¨cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and horses both before and after they were slaughtered and processed¨ before human consumption.

    16th Amendment (Income Tax)
    Allows congress to have power to lay and collect income taxes. The first tax that congress placed was a 3% tax on incomes over $800. Congress took the 3% tax in 1872. In the South and West Farmers suffered from low price but had to pay high prices for manufactured goods.
  • 17th Amendment (Direct Election of Senators)

    17th Amendment (Direct Election of Senators)
    The Senate must have two Senators from each State elected by the the people. Senators are in office for 6 years.When vacancies happen in the representation of any State in the Senate, the executive authority of such State shall issue writs of election to fill such vacancies. The Senator is temporarily filled until the vacancies can be filled.
  • Clayton Anti-Trust Act

    Clayton Anti-Trust Act
    The Whereas the Sherman Act only declared monopoly illegal while the Clayton Act would still make the monopoly still illegal and they would also ban other types of practices going on in the businesses. Specific forms of holding companies were forbidden as well as ¨discriminatory freight (shipping) agreements and the distribution of sales territories among so-called natural competitors¨.
  • Keating -Owen Child Labor Act

    Keating -Owen Child Labor Act
    Outlaw the interstate sale of products produced by child labor who haved work more than 8 hours a day and 6 days a week so if a child worked more than 8 hours a day and 6 days a week mines and factories were not allowed to ship products out of state. Declared unconstitutional in 1918 because it restricted commerce instead of outlawing child labor.

    18th Amendment (Prohibition)
    Prohibited the buying, selling, and transportation of alcohol in the United States. The only exclusions of this Amendment was for medical or religious reasons. This Amendment was later vetoed.
  • 19th Amendment (Suffrage for Women)

    19th Amendment (Suffrage for Women)
    The 19th Amendment gave the women the right to vote. Before all of it changed, the women did not have the same rights as the men had. They went to a national level and they also formed organisations that raise people's awareness. It took 70 years they were victories. What they worked to was a really high peak of Suffrage for Women.
