Teddy Roosevelt was the president from 1901-1909. Business Reform
The Elkins Act made it so the railroads could not offer rebates unless they wanted to pay a heavy fine. Eugene Debs
Debs was the leader of the socialist party and ran aganist Woodrow Wilson in the 1912 election. He was the outspoken leader of the labor movement. Debs was very important in the progressive era for finding the Industrial Workers of the World. H.G Welles
H.G wells was a writer from Great Britain who wanted to improve social reform through the Fabian society. He wrote a book about how people should take control of society called A Modern Utopia. Robert La Follette
Robert La Follette was the senator for Wisconsin from 1906-1925. During his time as senator he campaigned for child labor laws, social security, women's suffrage, and other progressive reforms. Upton Sinclair
Upton Sinclair was very important in the progressive era by being a muckraker. He wrote a novel called The Jungle which exposed horrible details of the meat packing industry in Chicago. The Meat Inspection Act of 1906 was a act that made sure all meat that went through a meat plant was inspeceted by officials before it was sent out to the public. WIlliam Jennings Bryan
Ran for president in 1908 for the thrid time, aganist teddy roosevelts hand picked canadate, William Taft. Bryan received a total of 493 electoral votes, the most of any candidate in American history who never won the presidency. Bryan was the most popular Chautauqua speaker. Social Justice Reform
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is an African-American civil rights organization. Charles Evans Hughes

Hiram Johnson
Hiram Johnson was the Govener of California from 1911-1917 in 1912 he became Theodore Roosevelt's Vice President. He was supported by social reformers and part of the Progressive Party. Woodrow Wilson
He was the 28th President of the United States, in office from 1913 to 1921. A leader of the Progressive Movement, he signed the 19th amendment allowing women's right to vote. 16th Amendment
The 16th amendment was proposed in 1909 and ratified in 1913. The amendment authorizes a national tax based on an individual income. 17th Amendment
Ratified in 1913, the Seventeenth Amendment, authorized voters to elect their senators directly. This was a significant change in the Progressive era that was apart of Political Reform. 18th Amendment
The 18th amendment is the amendement that started prohibition. 19th Amendment
The 19th Amendment was ratified in 1920. It granted women full voting rights, a long battle they had been fighting for years. Ratifying this amendment is important to the progressive era because during this time women were not treated the same as men.
