Sugar Act

Intolerable Acts
The colonists were directly by the Intolerable Acts. They were taxed heavily and were treated very unfairly. The Boston Harbor was shut down by these acts. They planned the first Continental Congress in response.

Stamp Act
Parliament required an official government stamp on documents. This was the first direct tax that was placed on the colonists. Quartering Act

Stamp Act Congress
Colonists met to discuss the Stamp Act and to explore the options on how they can fight back. Townshend Acts

Boston Tea Party
-The Sons of Liberty dressed as natives and dumped a bunch of British tea out into the Boston Harbor.

First Continental Congress
The colonists held a meeting in Philadelphia in response to the Intolerable Acts. They decided not to take military action unless they were attacked and agreed to meet at a later date. All the states sent delegates except Georgia. Quebec Act
Considered one of the Intolerable Acts, this act took away many of the colonists western claims. Second Continental Congress
This meeting took place in Philadelphia in response to Lexington & Concord and this time all states were represented. Among the group were: John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, James Wilson & Lyman Hall. They created the Continental Army and declared G. Washington its commander. Battle of Lexington & Concord
The British military arrived in Lexington looking for a hidden arsenal as well as the Patriots. They were fought by the colonial minutemen. Battle of Bunker Hill
This battle took place in Boston on top of Bunker Hill. British troops stormed up the hill three times but were forced to retreat. Common Sense

Declaration of Independence
This document written by Thomas Jefferson declared our freedom. It included the In alienable rights, the unfair things Britain had done and explained how Britain broke the social contract.
