    This act helps schools understand who is considered handicapped and waht is an appropriate education for them. Prohibits dicrimination against students that have disabilities in federal programs.
  • Education for all Handicapped CHildren Act (EAHCA)

    Education for all Handicapped CHildren Act (EAHCA)
    This is the start of IEPs, which help with educating disablied persons to get a better education. Requires states to provide a free and appropriate public education for children that have disabilities for ages 5-18.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
    Goes further to prevent discrimation to disabled people. Protects equal opportunity to employment and public services, accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
    This starts the "people-first" language when talking about disabled people. Requires the development of individualized transition programs for students with disabilities by the time they are 16.
  • No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)

    No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)
    This act insures that all children will get an education no matter what. It improves schools by increasing school, district, and state accountability for all students.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA)

    Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA)
    Allows educators to use the RTIs to help with educating students with disabilities. It also adopts policies designed to prevent the disproportionate representation of students in special education by race and ethnicity.
