Timeline: Prenatal Development Timeline

1-2 weeks pregnant

In weeks 1 and 2 of pregnancy, your body is gearing up for ovulation and preparing for fertilization.Your technically not pregnant yet and there's no baby.

3-4 weeks pregnant

Its now an embryo made up of 2 layers,placenta is developing,conception and the zygote turns into a blastocyst.

Embryo is growing,Brain/spinal cord starts to form.Bones,heart,organs start to form.The baby is 1/6 in long,eyes and ears form

7-8 weeks pregnant

Embryo has a small tail-forming hands/feet.Face and brain begins forming/developing.All organs are formed

Brain is growing,kidneys are starting to excrete urine,Toes can curl.

Organs/structure start to grow.Tiny tooth buds are appearing underneath the gums.Hands open and close into fist.The baby's body is straightening and his torso is lengthening.

Baby's growing rapidly.Transparent skin.The baby can soon hear your voice.Moving but mother can't feel it.Is 4 1/2 in and weighs 4 oz.

Sex more apparent.Baby can swallow/make urine.Weighs about 1 1/2 oz.Fingerprints develop

Sleeps/Wakes.All organs/structures formed.Breathing movement occur.Baby's lungs are developing more this week.6 1/2 in and 11 oz.

When 18-19 weeks pregnant your baby's digestive system will start to develop and work,they can also start hearing.First signs of fetal movement.

22-24 weeks pregnant

Now has eyebrows,nails,fingernails,lashes,more active.More lung development.Skin still transparent,weighs a little bit over a pound and is 8 in.

31-32 weeks pregnant

Rapid weight gain.The baby's brain is getting more sophisticated.The baby is busy cultivating real-life tricks like sucking, breathing and swallowing.Is 11in and weighs over 3 pounds.

28-29 weeks pregnant

Eyes begin to open,Lungs capable to breathing air.Kick strength increased and is 10 in and weighs 2 1/4 lbs.

36-37 weeks pregnant

Takes up most space in the amniotic sac.Body turns-head is down.Uterus is growing.

38-40 weeks pregnant

The baby's lungs are stronger.The baby's skin has now finally changed from pink-tinted to white, no matter what its eventual color will be.Baby is prepped for the real world with all systems (including organs and reflexes) a go.
