Prenatal Development Timeline

    month 1

    around this time you don't even know you are pregnant. In the first 2 weeks, your body is getting prepared for pregnancy. By week 3 the egg and sperm have successfully joined together. Week 4 the egg is fertilized and burrowing into the walls of your uterus.

    month 2

    Week 5 the baby is tiny. The heart, brain, spinal cord, muscles, and bones are starting to develop. The umbilical cord has also formed and connects your blood supply. In Week 6 the baby's eyes are starting to bud and during an ultrasound, you'll be able to hear the baby's heartbeat. During this time as well the mother has gained a few pounds and may be having morning sickness. In week 7 the baby's limbs are starting to bud. In Week 8 the eyelids and ears are starting to form

    month 3

    Week 9 the baby's head is more erect and the neck is more developed. In Week 10 the baby is about an inch long and its arms and legs are long and able to bend. During Week 11 the baby's teeth start budding and its intestines start forming. Week 12 the baby's profile is recognizable with a clear nose and chin.

    month 4

    During Week 13 the baby's wrists and ankles. For the mother her uterus has grown a lot and it is now on your pelvis and growing toward her abdomen. Week 14 the ears are moving from the neck to the head and the neck is getting longer as its chin becomes more prominent. In Week 15 the baby is covered in fine hair called lanugo and the baby's hair is beginning to grow. Week 16 the arms and legs are moving.

    month 5

    Week 17 the baby has doubled in weight and its fat begins to form to help heat production. For the mother her appetite has grown and it may be hard to sleep comfortably. During Week 18 the baby will stretch, yawn, swallow, and make facial expressions. In week 19 the baby's skin is developing and is transparent, and the lungs are also beginning to form. The mother she may feel dizzy, heartburn, constipation, leg cramps, and swelling in feet/ankles. Week 20 the baby can now hear sounds.

    month 6

    In Week 21 the baby's oil glands start making a waxy film called vernix caseosa. Week 22 the baby's muscles are getting stronger, the eyelids and eyebrows are developed, and the hair is visible. During Week 23 the babys lanugo can sometimes turn darker and the baby now has fingerpronts. In week 24 the baby can survie outside the womb, and is also starting to make white blood cells.

    Week 25 the baby's skin had become opaque and is covered in folds because it still needs to grow into its skin. In week 26 the baby's eyes can start opening. Week 27 the baby can now breathe on its own. During Week 28 the baby begins to experience REM(rapid eye movement) sleep.

    At week 29 the baby is still growing into its skin and the skin is also getting thicker. During week 30 the babys major boby systems have formed. In Week 31 the baby can hear distant sounds and familiar voicews/music. Week 31 the baby almost fills alll the space in yout uterus.

    Week 33 the babys brain can now control its body temp. and the baby is curled up due to the lack of room. In week 34 the baby is going into the head-down position and all organs are fully devloped expetce for the lungs and the skin is still pink/red. week 36 the baby os dropping to your lower abdomen. week 39 the baby is ready to get out.
