Month 1
At two weeks size is about as big as a pinhead. Egg attaches to the lining of the uterus. Brain and spinal cord development and heart begins to beat. Internal organs and circulatory system is beginning to form. -
Month 2
Size is about as big as 1/4 inch (6mm) long. Face, eyes, ears, and limbs begin to take shape. Bones also begin to form -
Month 3
Size is about 1 inch (25mm) long. Nostrils, mouth, lips, and eyelids form. Buds fro baby teeth appear and fingers and toes are almost complete. All organs are present but still immature. -
Month 4
Size is about 3 inches (7.6 mm) long, weight is about 1 ounce. Baby can suck thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around. Facial features are becoming clearer. -
Month 5
Size is about 61/2 inches long, and weighs about 4-5 ounces. Hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear. Organs are maturing and baby becomes more active. -
Month 6
Size is about 8-10 inches long and weighs about 8-12 ounces. Fat deposits under skin. Breathing movements begin. -
Month 7
Size is about 10-12 inches long and weighs about 11/2-2 pounds. Has periods of activity followed by periods of rest and quiet. -
Month 8
Size is about 14-16 inches long and weighs about 21/2-3 pounds. Rapid weight gain. May react to loud noises and moves into a head-down position. -
Month 9
Size is about 17-18 inches long and weight is about 5-6 pounds. Weight gain continues and skin becomes smooth as fat deposits continue. Movements decrease because of less room to move around. Gains disease-fighting antibodies from the mother's blood and descends into pelvis getting ready for birth.
