-Face, ears, eyes and limbs begin to take shape.
-Bones begin to form -
Month 3
Size: About 1 inch (25 mm)
-Mouth, nostrils, lips, teeth buds, and eyelids form.
-Fingers and toes almost complete.
-All organs are present, although immature. -
Month 4
Size: About 3 inches (7.6 cm) long, 1 ounce (28g) as month begins
-Can suck its thumb, swallow, hiccup, and move around.
-Facial feature become clearer. -
Month 5
Size: About 6 1/2 7 inches long, about 4-5 ounces
-Hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows appear.
-Organs are maturing.
-Teeth continue to develop.
-Baby becomes more active. -
Month 6
Size: About 8-10 inches, (21-25 cm)
About 8-12 ounces
-Fat deposits under skin but fetus appears wrinkled.
-Breathing movements begin. -
Month 7
Size: About 10- 12 inches long, about 1 1/2- 2 pounds
-Period of activity followed by periods of rest and quiet. -
Month 8
Size: About 14-15 inches, 2 1/2-3 pounds
-May react to loud noises, with a reflex jerking action.
-Weight gain continues rapidly.
-Moves into head-down position. -
Month 9
Size: About 17-17 inches long, 5-6 pounds
-Skin becomes smooth as fat deposits continue.
- Weight gain continues until the week before birth.
-Aquires disease-fighting antibodies from the mother's blood.
-Movements decrease ad the fetus has less room to move around.
-Descends into pelvis, ready for birth.
