Pre-Revolutionary Period

  • Stamp Act

This act, created in an effort to pay for the French and Indian War, taxes the colonists with every legal document bought. Many, many malcontents formed out of this idea. These people weren't opposed to the idea of the taxes, just the no taxation without representation.
  • French and Indian War Ends

The French and Indian War ends. British Parliament turns its attention to regulating the colonies in America. This event leads to the Revolutionary war like WWI led to WWII.
  • Declaratory Act

The Stamp Act is repealed, but this act gives Parliament the act to tax the colonists however they want.
  • Townshend Duties Act

Taxes are added in the tea, glass, lead, and paint items.
  • Boston Massacre

Drunk colonists were disrespectful toward British 'peace' soldiers and as a result, 5 colonists, including a slave.
  • Tea Act

Parliament passes the Tea Act, levying a tax that many colonists believe to be unfair, even though it lowers the price of tea. The lower price undercuts even smuggled tea—a trade in which many colonists participate as either sellers or buyers—and encourages colonists to
    buy the taxed tea.
  • Boston Tea Party

Colonists banded together and dumped tons of tea into the Boston harbor. Many other harbors along the colonies did the same, but they aren't credited/ remembered as well.
  • Intolerable Act

As a result of the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Harbor was closed, all assemblies were banned, and all colonists must quarter soldiers.
  • Declaration of Independence

'America' declared itself a separate entity from England.
