Many anti- slavery starte dto come together to finally try to end slevery. william llyod garrison wantd to be heard, and was a huge abolitionist, a lot of what he said set the tone for transforming the abolition movement. (1830 - 1839) -
Frederick Douglass and the North Star
frederick was a slave who wanted to be free and escaped to new york after a trip to baltimore workimg on a shipyard. he always had a thirst for learing and after writing his autobiography he went on a three year speaking tour in england. then he publishes a four page weekly paper called the north star. -
The Compromise of 1850
A set of laws, passed due to the fighting over free and slaves states. the comprmise was between groups favoring slavery and groups opposing it, that attempted to give something to both sides. The compromise made California a free state but allowed some new territories to decide on slavery for themselves. -
The Kansas/Nebraska Act and popular sovereignty
This created the territories of kanas and Nebraska made for new settling. White male settlers got to vote on whether the territories were free or slave territories based on popular sovereignty. -
Bleeding Kansas
violence breaks out between pro and anti slavery groups. john brown muders pro slave supporters. Many vadalism crimes were commited on both sides. -
The Dred Scott decision
Dred scott was a slave taken back to a free state. He tried to sue for his freedom but the sumpreme court said he can't sue because he is property not a person. -
The Election of Abraham Lincoln
lincoln came in dead last, his name didn't even show up on some of the south's ballets. But he won the Electoral College because of his population in the north and the west. -
South Carolina secession
Southners were worried that Abe wouldnt see there way of life and treat them unfairly. soon after south carolina secede so did six other southern states. They created the Confederate States of America. -
Formation of the Confederate States of America
Formed by seven southern slave states the suceed from the north.This started the civil war, and after it started four more states joined the conferderacy.
