    Chinese Nationalists oust the last Qing emperor, Puyi
    Pu Yi, the last Qing Emperor was ousted from power in 1911. He held no real power so he was forced to escape. His teacher, Reginald Johnson, told him to go to the British Embassy. Instead, he went to the Japanese Embassy and later was the puppet Emperor of Manchukuo after the Japanese captured. After the Japanses lost, Henry Pu Yi was captured and sent to a jail where he wrote his life stories and confessed his sins. He then became a gardener after being released.

    After Garvillo Princip assasinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria sent an ultimatum, a list of demands, to Serbia knowing full well that they could not meet all the terms. Serbia met 10 of the 11 terms but Austria, who was set on war, refused to negociate and attacked Serbia. Russia then backed the Serbians because of their large slavic population and then everyone began to take sides.

    U.S. citizens refused to delve into European matters after World War I began. Even after the sinking of the Luisitania, America still did not enter the war. It was only after the Germans sent a telegram to Mexico telling them to help Germany reconquer the land lost the the U.S. that the U.S. sent troops in.

    After the Russians backed out of the war, Germany foucesed all its troops on the western front hoping to win with one last push against the battle weary allied troops. At the second Battle the Marne, the U.S. joined the fight and sent 2 millions troops and quickly defeated the Germans. The Kaiser wanted to continue the assault but German officers called for an armistice and ended the fighting. The Treaty of Versailles was signed after.

    Gandhi leads Indian campaign of civil disobedience
    Gandi protested against the Raj by leading a campaign of civil disobediance. His first act of civil disobediance was against the clothe manufactering of the British. He knit his own clothe and wore it. His second act of disobediance was against the taxes on the salt. Gandi led a march, called the Salt March, to the beach to make salt. It was then carried back and distributed among the people.

    Mustaafa Kemal campaigned vigorously to mold the new republic into a modern nation. He modeled the republic after the United States and other European countries. He even set rules for clothing, banning the Fez. He also changed his name to Ataturk which meant the "Father of Turks."

    The Long March was a tatical retreat for the Communist party. They were defeated by the Nationalists and retreated 6,000 miles to regroup. Mao led the group and finally succeded and set up a new base of operations.
