Proclamation Act
This act was significant because it prohibited colonists from settling west of the Appalachia. The colonists ignored this act, and moved west anyway. -
Sugar Act
This act was significant because it raised tax revenue for the crown. The British government are now stopping smugglers and enforcing the law. The colonists boycotted the English products, and they soon earned the attention of Great Britain. -
Currency Act
This act was significant because it forbade colonists from using their own currency. Great Britain said that the colonists could buy good with colonial currency. The colonists wanted to divide themselves from Great Britain after this act. -
Stamp Act
This act was significant because the taxes in the colony were issued to be raised to pay the war debts. This was a direct tax that affected everyone. The colonists reacted immediately and said that this was another act meant to raise taxes without approval. Colonists started coming together as the Stamp Act Congress to organize boycotts. -
Quartering Act
This act was significant because the colonists were mandated to house the British Troops. They were told to build barracks and to feed soldiers. The colonists felt that this act violated the Bill of Rights of 1689. Government did not give the colonists money to house the soldiers. -
Declaratory Act
This act was significant because it confirmed that the Parliament had the tax authority in the colonies and Great Britain. The colonists ignored the powers and regarded it as an example of corrupt government. -
Townshend Act
This act was significant because it issued taxes on goods such as tea, lead, glass and dyes. The Parliament needed money so they tax the people. The colonists reacted with boycotts, protest and riots against tax collectors. -
Townshed Acts are Replead
The East India Company was given the monopoly on tea. Colonists starting boycotting and protesting again. -
Boston Massacre
This event was when British Troops killed 5 colonists as well as injured 6. This was not a piece of propaganda, the troops were being harassed, and the colonists were not being serious with the British Troops, so it must of triggered the troops. The colonists were outraged and felt attacked and unsafe especially being unarmed as well. -
Tea Act
This act was significant because this is what soon resulted into the Boston Tea Party. This act passed taxes on tea and the gave the West India Company all monopoly on tea import to the colonies. The colonists reacted very angrily. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a result from the Tea Act proposed earlier the same year. Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty boarded a ship dressed as Indians and threw over 300 chest of tea. Parliament passed the Boston Port Act and the Intolerable (Coercive Acts). The colonists were anything, but happy because they were going to have some sort of punishment. (Intolerable Acts, Boston Port Act) -
Intolerable Acts
This act was significant because help increase tensions between colonies and Great Britain. The intolerable acts was passed to punish Massachusetts bay colony because of the Boston tea party. The colonists reacted very angrily towards these acts. -
Second Quatering Act
The soldiers were now to be housed in the colonies because the government could not afford to house, feed, and care for the soldiers. The colonists still were not given the money to take care of the soldiers -
1st Continential Congress
This event happened because the colonists wanted an organized way to protest against the coercive acts, or intolerable acts.
