    Pope Julius II was born on December 5th, 1443. His birth name was Giuliano della Rovere. His Uncle was Pope Sixtus IV, his father was Rafaello della Rovere brother to the Pope.

    Child Hood

    Giuliano della Rovere was an altar boy for his uncle, Pope Sixtus IV. He was sent to be among the Franciscans by his uncle. he was sent to a convent in La Pérouse to study science.

    Accompanying the young King on his campaign, he entered Rome along with him. Pope Alexander, having gained a friend in Charles VIII's minister Guillaume Briçonnet by offering him the position of cardinal, won the Battle.

    Cardinalate

    When he was promoted to cardinal, he took the name of his uncle, Cardinal of San Pietro in Vincula. In 1483 an illegitimate daughter .A rivalry grew between Julius and Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia. In 1492 Boriga was elected Pope Alexander VI. Della Rovere became jealous and accused Borgia of simony and a secret agreement with Ascanio Sforza.

    Election

    Pius II was elected Pope, but then unfortunatley died 26 days later. Shortly after, Della Rovere tricked Casere Borgia, son of Pope Alexander VI, into suporting him in the election.

    Election part 2

    Della Rovere won the election by a near-unanimous vote of cardinals via bribery. Only 3 cardinals did not vote for him. The election only took a few hours.

    Papacy

    When he was elected Pope he left his old name and he became Pope Julius II. Using a system of complicated stratigems he rendered it impossible for the borgia to retain their power in the Papal States. He used his infuence to reconsile 2 powerful families in rome, the Orsini and the Colonna. Later he attached himself to the remainder of the Roman Nobility.

    Holy League

    A league was formed with Louis XII, King of France, Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Ferdinand II, King of Aragon. This made up the League of Cambrai. The league fought against The republic of Valencia in the "war of the holy league".

    Holy League part 2

    The accomplishmts of the League soon became even more than main intentions of what the Pope wanted. One single battle, (the Battle of Agnadello on 14 May 1509),lost the providence of Venice.

    Death

    He died of a fever in 1513, a year after the french were driven across the alps. It is a common error that makes people thinks that Julius is buried in the tomb of Julius made by michalangelo. he would have been buried there but the tomb was not yet erected.
