In 1506 Ponce de Leon made a request to travel and conquer a place called Borinquen. He got permission from a man named Ocando, then he started a new settlement and he named it San Juan de Puerta Rico. Later on they renamed it Adelantado.

In March 1513 Ponce de Leon sailed from Puerto Rico and a month later he anchored he stopped near the mouth of St. Johns River on the northeast coast fo Flordia. He was impressed with all the flowers blooming and he even got there and anchored on Easter day.

On April 2 Ponce de Leon and his crew members arrived at St. Augistine a place in Florida. Unfortunately, he did not find the fountain of youth on this voyage. On his next voyage, totally on accident though Ponce de Leon found something that he didn't know that he was going to find it. He found the gulf stream. That was a stream that flows out of the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1521, Ponce de Leon went on an expedition with 200 men and they had cattle, horses, farming implements and seeds for planting to establish a Spanish colony in La Florida, but when he and his party started to build their stuff they ended up gettting attack by Indians and that leads to how Ponce de Leon's death.

Juan Ponce de Leon died in Cuba in 1521.It was in July when he was sailing torwards Florida hoping to find a colony and then he was attack. He died because he was shot with a bow and arrow while some Indians attacked him and his friends. They sailed away and they sailed to Havana, Cuba and that is where he died.
