    Massive Desegregation
    Black students were scoring 40 points lower than white students.

    Rural desegregation in St. Louis. A judge ordered the district to bus white students to black student schools in rural areas.
  • 1988

    Peak of school Integration, black students had now shown an improvement in their test scores and the achievement gap was now only 18 pts. This was information which had only been gathered for one generation of students.
  • 1999

    Desegregation order has ended. Only 18 points difference between white and black students for testing. Most successful metro area desegregation program in the country.

    Reporting on schools in Durham N.C.
    She found an interesting fact that integration cuts the achievement gap by half between black and white students.
  • 2013

    A community had started desegregation without knowing it. January the Missouri DPI had pulled the accreditation from the Normandy school district allowing a law to take effect which allows students to transfer to another district for free.

    Parents filled the gymnasium for a town hall meeting for concerns about when the Normandy students will be arriving
  • 2013 Fall

    1000 students want to travel to the new school district 30 miles away. The segregation had starred as the majority of the students traveling to Frances Howle were black. Normandy school district was paying a million a month to bus the students to a different district.
  • 2014, Spring

    State is now taking over Normandy school district. If the district would have gone bankrupt it would have been the ultimate segregation program ever! State renames district and it is now a non-accredited district which means transfer law is null and void and students have to come back or pay outside tuition where they are.
  • 2014

    Parents are sent a letter letting them know the district has been reorganized and the students are due back. The district fires all the teachers but desperate to fill the positions hires back some of them to fill the positions.
  • 2015

    Micheal Brown is killed not far from the school he graduated from and is buried by the football field of the school. He was killed only 9 days before the school year started.

    School starts for the new Normandy district

    Some students transfer back to Francis Howl. A judge has allowed students to go back to the school district with no penalty. Each student does have to have their own approval from the judge.
  • 2015-2018

    The district is planning on a 3 year time frame to turn the district around and become accrediated by the DPI.
  • 2015, Spring

    A reporter followed a high school honor student through his classes and found, inadequate building, uninvolved teachers, middle school work given, and 4 music classes to fill in the void of instruction. Superintendant was shocked to find out the lack of education that was being exposed at the Normandy High School.
