Phoenix College Timeline

  • PC Founded

    Pheonix College was formerly known as Pheonix Junior College (PJC). Classes were held in small cottages near sixth street downtown Pheonix. PJC was given a black bear's cub to take care of when a circus came to Phoenix, in 1920. It's name was "Bunstead" which went to all the football games. This is how the mascot was choose to be a "Bear".
  • First Major Events

    Phoenix Junior Colleged had their first Commencement, Graduation of five students. The first football team was formed.
    The first theatrical production was staged, "The Tailor Made Man".
  • State Legilature Provides Funding for Junior College Districts

    The state legilature provides funding for Junior College Districts. So by 1962 Maricopa County Junior College District is established and Poenix Junior College is acquired by the new system. The system establishes a Glendale Community College campus.
  • The sixth Dean is named: J. Lee Thompson

    J. Lee Thompson was namedf Phoenix Junior College's sixth Dean, now known as PC. Sophomore Square was designed and they had a ground breaking for Hannelly Center, And, the first Student UNION, was form. Previously, in 1922 the first Student Government was formed of 8 students.
