    Spanish conquester Miguel López de Legazpi established one of the first European settlements in the East Indies and the Pacific Islands. Miguel López de Legazpi arrived on Philippine Cebu and later established the colony on April 27th which was the beginning of a three century Spanish rule over the Philippines.
