  • After the death of their elder brother, Fedor III, under the regency of their sister, Tsarevna Sophia Alexeevna, Peter I the Great (1672-1725) became Tsar of Russia jointly with his sickly half-brother Ivan V (1666-1696)

  • The rule of Peter I the Great began, until 1725. The original stone cathedral of the Monastery of the Epiphany in Moscow was built during this time. It was built over the remnants of an earlier wooden church
