    Personal Timeline

  • Diagnosis

    Diagnosis
I was diagnosed with type one diabetes on February 23, 2010. This was a turning point in my life because it forced me to mature much quicker than the rest of my friends as well as being more responsible due to the fact that my life was literally in my own hands and in whether or not I would inject my medication and take care of myself or not.
  • Mom's Stroke

    Mom's Stroke
My mom suffered what the doctor's believe was a stroke. At the time, it was just my mom and I, and I noticed she was acting strange. I looked up her symptoms on WebMD, and it stated she was having a stroke. I panicked, and called my dad to come home from work rather than calling 911; she suffered the stroke on the way to the hospital. Thankfully, she made a full recovery. This event was scarring as I feel responsible for not calling 911, but helped me to know how to handle stressful situations.
  • High School Acceptance

    High School Acceptance
After grueling entrance exams and many applications, I received a letter of acceptance and a scholarship to my first choice high school. This would begin the journey that really led me to who I am today, because my high school (private all girls) taught me that girls can do whatever boys can and gave me a sense of empowerment.
  • Car Crash

    Car Crash
My brother and I were hit by a driver leaving a family picnic speeding, and ran a red light, t-boning us and causing our car to spin. The car hit on my side and the paramedics said if they had hit us a few seconds earlier I would have died. I suffered a variety of injuries and was left with irreversible nerve damage in my spine--it is inoperable because the procedure could take my ability to walk. This event made me realize how precious life is and made me an advocate against drunk driving.
  • Boating

    Boating
Every summer, I spend a lot of time on my boat with my dad. I thoroughly enjoy spending time out on the water as it really gives me the opportunity to learn more about him and talk about things that are more than surface level. Our saying is always... "between you, me, and the sea..." This is important to me because it really taught me the importance of healthy relationships and being able to talk to people when you are having problems
  • High School Graduation

    High School Graduation
Graduating high school was an important step I did not know I needed. After graduation, I felt such a sense of calm--I was ready to move on to my next chapter and enjoy the rest of my time at home before everything changed.
  • Traveling

    Traveling
In 2018, I had the opportunity to travel 5 countries in Europe with my brother. This was an amazing trip, and I wish I was still there. I love traveling because I am able to learn about different cultures and lifestyles and get out of my own bubble and really experience the world first hand. Being able to have done this with my brother meant so much more because we were really able to bond and spend quality time together, which is so important to me because family is something I highly value.
  • Butler

    Butler
Moving into and choosing Butler was a tough decision, especially moving out of state, but I knew it was the right choice and would help me grow as an individual. Since moving here, I have become much more independent in general but also in forming my own opinions different from my family and friend's opinions that I was surrounded by for so long.
