    Adolf Hitler Appointed Chancellor of Germany
    In November of 1932, the Nazi party won 33 percent of the vote, which was more than any other party, in the German Election. Due to this, President Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler, who was the head of the National Socialist German Workers Party (NAZI Party), the new chancellor of Germany. This shows persecution to people with disabilities because when hitler became the ruler, he was in charge and everyone had to follow his ruling.
  • Reichstag Fire Decree

    Reichstag Fire Decree
    This law was put into place by President von Hindenburg. This law took away freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right for people to assemble. This meant that the government now could control what was being published to citizens of Germany. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they no longer have the freedom to speak, gather in groups, and they could not control what they got to see that was published.

    Hitler could make anything a law without having to check with other people. This means that Hitler had the power. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because Hitler was in charge, and the people living in his country had no say and had to follow his rules.

    People burned books that didn’t talk positively about the Germans. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they didn’t have a choice of what books they wanted to keep and read, they had to burn the books that talk badly about the Germans.

    People with physical and mental disabilities or mental illness were forced to not have children. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they didn’t have the freedom to choose if they wanted to grow their family and have children. Hitler took that away from them.

    There were no limits or restraints on Hitler’s authority. Germany became a complete dictatorship. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they have no control over what they can or can’t do and they have to listen to whatever Hitler tells them to do.

    The decree was meant to allow authorized physicians to carry our “ mercy killings”. As well as to protect the doctors who were involved. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they targeted all people with a disability and wanted to kill them. This was not the victim's choice, it was forced.

    The SS opened a large concentration camp near the town of Oswiecim to be killed in mass shootings and worked to death. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they were forced to live and work in a labor camp, and the end result was most likely death.

    Alfred was sent to a children’s ward called Spiegelgrund institute, where he was murdered for having a disability. He was 7.
  • Mass Murder Begins at Chelmno

    Mass Murder Begins at Chelmno
    To carry out the mass murder of Europe's Jews, the SS established killing centers devoted exclusively or primarily to the destruction of human beings in gas chambers. Chelmno was among these killing centers. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they were again forced to go to a concentration camp and to be poisoned. Their life was taken from them.

    Anyone who was caught helping a jew would be sent to Poland for a death penalty. This shows persecution against people with disabilities because they are forced to not help jews, and to pick a certain side in the war.
