    Edward V. Roberts was diagnosed with Polio when he was 14. This did not stop him in that he went on to college and made it possible for others with disabilities to attend college easier. After that he also went on to be the Director of the Center of Independent Living in Berkeley.

    Ed Roberts was one of the first disabled students at UC Berkeley but it wasnt an easy battle. He was housed in the campus hospital after housing troubles, and was later joined by others with diabilities "The rolling quad." But soon Ed Roberts was able to get the support of the US Department of Education and won the full support of UC Berkeley.

    LinkA meeting was called between multiple leaders of Disabled Rights Activists including, Fred Fray, Judy Huemann, Ed Roberts, and Mark Starkloff to came together meeting informally and suddenyl recognized how common their goals were. So they all collaborated to create one organization called the American Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities. This was a huge step forward in this Act because this Organization was run by people only with disabilities.

    LinkIn 1973 this act was passed eliminating any discrimination of employment to people with any kind of disabilities in agencies/programs/activities that are run or funded federally. This event was a big step for this movement because if disabled people could work without discrimination then they could get paid, which also means a more independent life free of discrimination or embarassment.

    he Indiviuals with Disabilities Education Act of 1975 was an act that provided and insured a public education that speciailized in Disabilities and a cirruculum to meet any and all needs of a child with a disability. It was passed to protect the rights of education to any child with a disabiliity and thier families.

    Major Accomplishments
    The greatest accomplishment acheived through the movement was the passage of the Americans With Disabilites Act (1990). The act worked to provide protection to the disabled from discrimination and biases. Not only did it protect the civil rights of the disabled and helo them to feel more equal in society, it also made employers provide proper accomodations to their disabled employees. Another major accomplishment was even just introducing the 1988 Americans with Disabilities Act into congress.

    Another important problem still faced today by those with disabilites is lack of affordable health care. Often times disabled people require many visits to the doctor and possibly other procedures or medications. But unfortunately some are struggling to get access to such things because it is too expensive for them to afford on a disabled income.

    Today, even after all of the progress made during the disabled rights movement people with disabilities still face prejudice in many aspects of their lives. One place the disabled really see prejudice or bias from is in movies and media. When a character has a disability they are often portrayed in a very stereotypical and inaccurate way. This impacts people with disabilities negatively because it makes them feel like people don't care enough to learn about disabilities and portray them properly
