In 1975, The first special education civil rights legislation in the US, called Education for All Handicapped Children Act was written. It required all public schools to provide equal access to education for all disabled children. It lead to the creation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

    Link!Disabled people were still being discriminated against in the 1990s, so Congress put forth an act that would make a more clear statement about discrimination against people with disabilities. It highlighted the different types of disabilities that they viewed as “disabled” and made it more clear as to what discriminating was. The ADA specifically prohibited any discrimination in the fields of employment, transportation, public accommodation, communications, and governmental activities.
