    This was the first battle of the Civil War and was fought in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. It was the Confederacy attacking the United States army at this fort, causing the start of the war and creating the Union.
  • Bull Run

    Also known as the Battle of First Manassas, Bull Run was fought in Prince William County Virginia. It was the first major battle of the Civil War. Each side had about 18,000 poorly trained and poorly led troops in this battle. The Confederacy came out on top, followed by Union forces retreating.
  • Battle of Hampton Roads

    This was one of the first battles in 1862, in Virginia, also referred to as the Battle of the Monitor and Merrimack or the Battle of Ironclads. This is probably the most important naval battle in the Civil War. It was fought over two days and was a Confederate effort to destroy the Union's blockades cutting off Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia, from international trade. The two ironclad ships of the Union and Confederacy fought to a stand still till, but Virginia retired.

    Taking place in Manassas, Virginia, like the first battle, but was at a larger scale and numbers. This time although, the Union wins.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Also called the Battle of Sharpsburg, this was the deadliest one-day battle in all of American military history. It was the first field-level battle on Union soil that left 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing.
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    Battle of Fredericksburg
    One of the worst battles for the Union, losing three times as more than the Confederacy, this battle was very one-sided. The Union lost this bad because they tried to attack against Confederates defending in trenches.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    One of the more important engagements in the Civil War, Confederate General Robert E. Lee marched his troops through Pennsylvania in late June. This unfortunately for them, lead to a Union victory.
  • Siege of Petersburg

    It was not like a classic siege, being surrounded with all supplies cut off, it consisted of nine months of trench warfare.
  • Battle of Mobile Bay

    Battle of Mobile Bay
    This was the last major battle of the year of 1864 that lasted for about 20 days. It was an attack on a Confederate ship fleet by a Union fleet.
  • Battle of Appomattox Court House

    Battle of Appomattox Court House
    This was the last battle of the Civil War. It was the final engagement of the Confederacy against the Union until they surrendered. The signing of the surrender documents took place in the parlor house.
