Countryside code published for the first time
After this the ramblers assosiation produced a ramblers code which was then was found interesting by 17 different organisations to adpot the code. -
The Kinder Trespass
On this date over 400 people participated in a mass trespass onto Kinder Scout, a bleak moorland plateau, the highest terrain in the Peak District. The event was organised by the Manchester branch of the British Workers Sports Federation. Five men from Manchester, including the leader, Benny Rothman, were subsequently jailed.Laws were created (1949) that outlined walkers right to roam over common land and it contributed to the development of the pennine way. -

First UK Outward Boud Centre, Wales
The Trust was founded in 1941 by Lawrence Holt and Kurt Hahn. Initially intended as a survival school for merchant seamen, after the war, its success was seen as a valuable means of making individuals more independent, self aware and able to cope for themselves. It has now go onto benefit over a million people learning survial and life lessons which are skills very important in daily life meaning it has changed lots of people life for the better. -
National Parks and Access to the Country
This is an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom which created the National Parks Commission which later became the Countryside Commission and then the Countryside Agency. This provided the framework for the creation of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales, -

Second UK Outward bound centre, Eskdale
It's the second ever centre operating as a mountain school when it first opened. The centre is situated in the picturesque valley of the River Esk, in the remote high fells of England’s western Lake District. -
Peak District becomes the first National Park
Most of the area falls within the Peak District National Park, whose designation in 1951 made it the first national park in the United Kingdom. -
Kurt Hahn founded the DofE
The Award is a balanced programme of activities available to all young people between the ages of 14-24 that develops the whole person in an environment of social interaction and team work. Currently there are more than 140 countries running the Award with over eight million participants since its inception. In the UK alone, over 2,000,000 Awards have been achieved by young people since 1956 and more than 300,000 young people take part in the programme at any one time. -

MLTB founded
In 1964 the Mountain Leader Training Board, or MLTB, was formed by the British Mountaineering Council and the Central Council for Physical Recreation. The intention was to establish standards of training and assessment in the competence to lead others in the mountains: the Mountain Leadership Certificate (the MLC), as it was known, was born. -
Pennine way completed
The final section of the path was declared open in a ceremony held on Malham Moor on 24 April 1965. -

National Curriculum created
This is when a set teaching programme was created for schools which they had to follow. Within this it outlined that pupils had to do physical education. The activities done were usually outdoor because of the lack of facilities. -
Lyme bay tradgedy
This was the deaths of four teenagers on a sea kayaking accident in the Lyme Bay area which led to legislation to regulate adventure activities centres working with young people in the UK. A group of 8 were led two instructors from an outdoor centre on a kayak trip across Lyme Bay, on the south coast of England. -
Adventure activities liecensing authority created
The Activity Centres (Young Persons’ Safety) Act 1995 was passed through Parliament in January 1995 and an independent licensing authority, the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) was formed, funded by the Department of Education and Employment (DFE) and under the guidance of the Health and Safety Executive. -

Due to the incident on the kinder trespass the Act implements the so-called "right to roam" long sought by the Ramblers' Association and its predecessors, on certain upland and uncultivated areas of England and Wales. -

-Walking on a school trip leads to two girls from Royds Comprehensive drowning in Stainforth Beck, Settle. This is very relevant as it raised awarenesss of health and safety rules that must be followed in order to keep people safe while taking part in outdoor education. -
PE Curriculum includes OE in PE but not compulsory
This is very good as it gives pupils a chance to take part in outdoor education which may even interest them so much that they decide to take part outside of school. It also gives pupils a wide range of experiences and new different skills. -
WGL Award begins
This is a walking group leader award which allows you to take groups on students on desinated approved walk. -
Glenridding Beck Drowning
This was an incident that made British Health and Safety Executive (HSE) about the drowning of Max Palmer during a school activity weekend in Lake District, England in 2002. Causes identified in an investigation by the HSE which resulted to the tragedy; Sentence imposed to the teacher concerned with the school activity; Recommendations for schools and providers of outdoor education. -
UK Lottery funds a major summer camp programme for every UK child to have at least one week long OE camp.
This was done to get schools and students to understand the importance of doing outdoor education and encourage them to do more trips. Focusing the importance of health and safety as well. -
Lord Adonis' manifesto
This guy pledged one major OE trip per pupil whilst at school a week after a 14 year old boy died in a potholling accident. This was not good to reinforce the argument to do outdoor education. -

Joseph Lister from Tadcaster grammer school died potholing on a school trip
He was one of 11 pupils from Tadcaster grammar school in North Yorkshire, who were exploring the cave on the first day of a week's residential trip at nearby Pateley Bridge. -
PE curriculum mentions OE as a means to provide challenging oppurtunies
This meant that physical education teachers had certain roles to provides oppurtuinities or trips to pupils to do a range of outdoor education. -
