First, they were announced as endangered.
They were first identified as endangered in November 2017. They first lived in the tropical rain forests which are being chopped down or burned. They had a population of around 230,000 orangutans around a century ago. -
Definition of endangered and what does it mean to the wildlife.
The definition of endangered is when a species is seriously at risk of extinction. This is important because no matter how much we like the orangutans and want to keep them alive forever, they do belong to the food chain and are crucial for their predator's food supply. This could put a big hit on the species in the rain forests. -
What is their habitat like?
They are found in the rainforests in the South East Asian islands of Borneo and Sumatra. They often reside in the trees feeding off of ripe fruit pies and other small insects. -
What are people doing to help?
Some organizations have an "Adopt an Orangutan" special that you can basically help the recuperate and have them in a controlled habitat to have them possibly be reintroduced to the wild. -
How is their habitat depleting?
These days, they are being put back out into the wild and are not finding any success because of the babying that they got in their controlled environments because of how they had anything their way. Now all we can do is try and reduce the amount of fossil fuels used and try to make the rainforests and wildlife stay intact.
