  • Why Educate?

On the surface, this question is simple. We educate to create smart citizens. Yet if that is the reason, then why do so many schools fail at this? Why are schools crumbling across the nation with nothing being done to stop this crisis? If the main goal of education was to create smart citizens or something similar in nature, it seems like there would be more done to fix the current problems plaguing the current education system. Therefore, it seems that we educate for a different reason than to

  • Equal Access to Water & Other Natural Resources

I’m not sure is this is discussed in the UDHR, but if it’s not then it should be. By restricting access to, or in any means hindering access to resources such as clean water, this act should be considered a crime against humanity.
  • Ending Racism and Hate

How racism/gender inequality still exists is just outrageous. After reading and watching the assigned material, I was shocked to see how so many adults are just large children. I guess that’s insulting to children, but you get my point? So many people are blinded by such irrelevant things that it’s slowing the advancement of important things like science for example. Though I don’t have evidence to support this, I feel that because society is still caught up in these issues, there are many peopl
  • Halting the Spread of Global Disease

Honestly, I really don’t know what to think about this one. To do so, I’m guessing it will require large scale international cooperation, which would interfere with many countries’ policies. Also, I really don’t know how many countries could undertake this mission, since the economic stability of many major countries is fragile at best. If there is a global movement to end global disease, I’m sure it will occur when the countries that will back this movement fix all of their domestic problems.
  • Eliminating Extreme Poverty

I really wish there was a simple and feasible answer to this. The nation can’t just throw money at people in poverty—pay for every need of a person, unlike today’s welfare system—as this could create an “easy road” that many would follow instead of entering the job market. However, poverty in the nation needs to be fixed. I think rebuilding dilapidated schools and creating a studier education system could help fix poverty, but only to some extent. Going on the premise that everyone has a complet
  • Social Justice/Human Rights for all

This section is just like the ending racism/gender equalities topic: people need to grow up. This will only happen through education on humanity.
  • Restoring Earth's Environment

This was the scariest thing to learn about, well other than the fact that cow milk is essentially liquid Satan for your bones and prostate (I don’t mean this as a joke, but I swear milk is going to be the reason of my death). It kills me that the world is getting to a point of no return-maybe it has already reached it, I don’t know.
  • Alternative Forms of Education

While I think that the education should be revamped, using John Gatto as an example, I’m not sure if education should be led in that direction. While it is necessary to learn principles of humanity, education should also contain a standardized curriculum—just my opinion.
  • Controlling the Proliferations of Weapons & Breaking the Cycle of Violence

This topic is similar to many other ones in that I really don’t have enough knowledge on the subject to form a sturdy answer. Of course I’m against violence and shootings, but I also think people should be allowed to have weapons. Furthermore, I have no idea if stricter gun laws actually reduce crime, so would it be beneficial to reduce a personal freedom for a possible, not actual, reduction of crime?
  • Overconsumption, Advertising, United States' Impact

I think of myself as someone who doesn’t “overconsume”, but then again that’s because I have little money in my bank account and I don’t want to see a lesser amount in there. Anyway, advertising has just gotten crazy after its deregulation. I really don’t see it coming down to the level before deregulation, and considering the power advertisers have, I’m guessing that advertisers will only gain more, which would further overconsumption. Hopefully something is done to reduce its effect on the nat
  • Investing in Human Security. How do we do it? Teach it? Be it?

I think it would benefit the nation if we started teaching about humanity or human security. With the current environment of the U.S, I think if we started learning about humanity it could change things in a good way. A way to teach this could be showing human’s impact on each other and the environment to students.
