Interprofessional Education and Collaboration: Best Practices in Patient-Centered Care with Infants and Children in the center of the opioid epidemic
The purpose of this proposal is to provide graduate students in Communication Sciences and Disorders an opportunity to learn about the role and responsibilities of other health care professionals in working with children with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and their families. It is hoped that the graduate students will gain an understanding of the importance of interprofessional practice in addressing the holistic needs of this specialized population. -

I. Develop a formal definition of the educational characteristics of children exposed to opioids at the preschool, school age and middle school levels. II. Develop a program for implementation, pilot the program and gather data III. Educate current professionals and students (regionally and nationally) entering the work place through a prototype course / training related to the assessment and intervention of this population. -
