Wisconsin Conservation Congress discussed issues on behalf of deer population and hunters over the last three years. (Only for educational purposes)

  • Resolutions discussed on CWD and population control.

Committee members struggled to find steps that can be taken to deal with CWD. Members suggested more information from other states and greater public awareness might help. New restrictions were discussed for group hunts, antler points, and "bonus buck" program.
  • 2015 deer season wrap up

Three percent of all hunters needed assistance with new electronic registration system for deer. Just over 87,000 deer were killed by bows, and almost 258,000 killed by guns. CWD was discussed and how more time is needed to observe the affects of the disease.
  • Citizen resolutions and Chronic Wasting Disease update

Resolutions were brought forward and discussed such as extending cross bow season, earn-a-buck initiative, and the sale of antlerless permits. CWD and ways to help face this problem were discussed. The mortality study has expanded and is now being rolled out in Iowa and Grant counties.
  • Discussion of County Deer Advisory Councils and how to lower deer population.

Committee members discussed how each CDAC should make decisions for their own county on how to lower deer population. It was suggested that an antlerless only season run during all deer seasons after the 10 day muzzleloader season.
  • 2016 deer wrap up

Bow hunting is rising while gun hunting is dropping. There was a 29% increase in women hunter last year. Just over 1000 deer collared in the North deer study, and the new areas of Grant and Iowa county are being used for CWD impact and predator study.
